Why are some blogs so hard to comment on?

Honestly, some of you all have your comment section locked down like it contains a National Treasure.

The Captcha is bad enough.

But if I battle the Captcha monster for twenty or so tries, only to find out you're moderating your comments ANYWAY- I'm kind of wondering what kind of comment trauma you've endured that would make you so protective of the space beneath your post? You can always delete stuff. Is there a spamming destructive worm-y disease that infects blogs through the comment section? Should I, too, be more cautious of the blank space beneath the post?

Have I missed out on some insidious beast?

I have had some NASTY comments (not on this blog but on my livejournal) and that hurt me badly. Nasty comments in regards to my miscarriages and stuff so I went totally block everything. Haven't had anything bad happen here in blog land yet so I have made it easy for comments.

Before I really started to get into the blogging I had a distasteful comment that most woman would not want to see. So for that reason I monitor my comments. Since then I have only had one comment that made absolutely no sense. You are right I could delete them. But unfortunately I guess there are some people out there with way too much time on their handa to leave those type of comments and like to upset the apple cart I suppose lol... Anyways I was stopping by to show some love and I am your new follower through the Sweeping Me blog hop.

by the gods, I'm with you! From time to time, I'll try to enter giveaways that some friends will host. If you're going to give me five entries for doing blah blah blah... if I have to captcha every freaking time, I'll quit. I won't enter your giveaway. And then they'll go crying about how they have low entries. It's crazy.

I don't know how Blogger works, but Wordpress lets me moderate the first comment from a poster - then I can auto approve all comments from them after that. Works very well.

I agree some blogs are horrible to comment on, and sometimes you comment and then you click away and realize you forgot the captcha thingy.

Anyway, I actually had the comments at Frugality Is Free without the captcha, and I received some really bad spamming comments, some even threatening....and a lot of them.

Now, I have the captcha on, and I moderate comments on posts that are older than 30 days.

Thank you for participating in the Follow Us Monday Morning blog hop at Frugality Is Free and Being Frugal and Making It Work.

I've only had to delete a few comments. Maybe I just don't have enough followers yet. Maybe.

I have the Captcha on to eleminate spammers - I had another blog once and it was aweful. I moderate for you! This way when someone follows me from a blog hop I don't miss following them back. I tried just having them post but with my work schedule I was finding that ineffective. This way I know who I followed and who I stil need to follow.

I hate captcha! I know some people want to moderate and of course that's their choice--but why do I have to click "comment" 2 or 3 times before I even see a captcha?? (obviously that's not any fault of the blogger- maybe it's my connection!)

haha, this was posted before you visited me.. but I hope it couldn't be applied to my blog!

I personally moderate my comments because I used to get spam a lot. Also, I like being told when somebody comments, because without a reminder I might forget to check!

Hope it wasn't too hard to comment... :) happy blogging!

I moderate out of habit. My other blog gets a lot of automated spam, and I figured blogger would be even worse, so I just set it up that way. I've turned it down a bit, we'll see how it goes.

I agree with you. Sometimes it is really difficult to leave comments on some people's blogs. I have always wondered the same thing.

LOL! Yes and Amen sister!

When my hubby was designing my blog, all I could do was talk to him about comments. No captcha, no moderation, only 5 on a page at a time. He was like, "ok - do you care about ANYTHING else?"

I can't stand hard to enter comments, but I usually will go through it for a giveaway...but nothing else.

Thanks for stopping by Wiccan Make Some Too. Following your blog now. I totally agree with the jumping through hoops to comment. I think mine has the enter these random letters thing & have been trying to find a way to get rid of it.

Thank so much for the lovely comments on my blog...I hope it wasn't too hard to find the comment section to be able to comment LOL. Actually I do agree with you on this post about how hard it is sometimes to comment on other blogs. Either I can't find the comment link or it practically asks me for a blood sample before it accepts my comment. However, after reading these comments I do understand why some have to moderate them.

Please drop by often!

This is a good post! I hate the loops I have to go through as well just to,,it's ok sometime but to always have to enter extra stuff keeps me away!
